Vegetable substances can be broken down and fragmented rapidly by earthworms during the process of digestion, when earthworms feed on such substances. During the process of digestion organic substances get mixed with secretions present in the gut wall of the earthworm. The excreta of the earthworm, the vermicompost is a stable material with good structure, which has potentially high economic value as soil conditioner for plant growth. The nutrients presents in the vermicompost are available to plants in easily absorbable form. The excreta of earthworms is devoid of pathogens and supplies good amount of nitrogen nutrients as the worms produce 60% of their body weight in urine every day.
