PAM is a polymer of Polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide was developed in the 60’s to grow plants in the desert and has been refined to last longer and absorb water at higher rates. Polymers have recently been introduced in the “soil additive” market with great success. 

  PAM crystals absorb and hold four hundred times their weight in water in the root zone, and then upon demand, release the water to the plant. PAM performs under soil pressure and in the presence of fertilizers and other water-soluble additives. It absorbs more rapidly and releases the moisture more efficiently and remains effective for 7 to 10 years. Only 2 – 3 Kg of PAM is sufficient for one acre of agricultural land. It is a potassium-based copolymer and is non-toxic. It breaks down into ammonia, carbon dioxide and water and leaves no residual toxicity. PAM improves aeration and drainage of growing media. PAM is available in the brand names Terawet and Teraflow.
